Preschool Curriculum/Special Programs
Incarnation Catholic Preschool is committed to helping your child grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and socially. It is our mission to provide educational opportunities to children one year of age through four years of age. Each classroom has a loving environment where children are able to explore and express themselves to gain a deeper understanding of God’s wonderful world.
Incarnation Catholic Preschool uses the most current developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices to guide the program. The curriculum is based on Tennessee Department of Educations’ Early Learning and Developmental Standards. These standards address all areas of development, including Social/Emotional Development, Language and Early Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Creative Arts and Physical Development.
Teachers develop their daily lessons based on the Tennessee Department of Educations’ Early Learning Developmental Standards using resources from Handwriting with Tears Numbers and Math, Zaner-Bloser Writing and the Letter People.
Handwriting without Tears Numbers and Math –Handwriting without Tears demystifies numbers and makes math concepts relevant and fun for children. With playful manipulatives, music and rhymes, our numbers and math program teaches counting, comparisons, spatial awareness patterning, sequencing, matching, sorting, problem solving and even Pre-K geometry skills.
The program helps students build number sense right from the start. They get time to play with real objects and test their ideas so that math becomes real and meaningful. Children also develop oral language that helps them learn about and express math concepts.
Zaner-Bloser Handwriting –Zaner-Bloser is a comprehensive and effective handwriting instruction that has used 125 years of research and experience to develop their curriculum. With an emphasis on modeling and efficient description, they use letter strokes, pencil grip and letter placement to help students gain and understanding of the letters and their formation.
Letter People – Letter People is a research-based, developmentally appropriate, comprehensive Pre-K curriculum. Kid-friendly and teacher-approved, Let’s Begin with the Letter People, helps early learners develop the strong foundation they’ll need for reading and writing success in today’s much more rigorous kindergarten classrooms. This program concentrates on oral language and listening skills, print awareness, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, alphabet knowledge, vocabulary development, writing and spelling.
Chapel – Once a month, our children ages 3-5 visit the Chapel to listen and discuss a bible story. Some of the lessons include Noah’s Ark, Guardian Angels, The story of Creation, and Jesus’ Birth. The lesson introduces the children to God’s house and begins to form the foundation of their faith. Children in the 1 and 2 year old classes participate in bible storytime in the classrooms.
Music – All of our children attend Music once a week. The children learn the basics of music through song and movement. They also learn about basic musical and percussion instruments. The children perform their songs in both the Christmas and End of Year programs.
Fire Safety – Our children ages 3-5 attend Fire Safety with the Collierville Fire Department Firemen once a month where they learn a series of lessons on fire safety. Community Helpers, Matches and Lighters, Hot and Cold Items, Stop, Drop and Roll and Exit Drills are a few of the lessons taught by the Firemen. In May, the children are treated to a Fire Truck visit and receive a Fire Safety Certificate of Completion
Incarnation Preschool will also host many fun thematic learning days, such as fall Pumpkin Patch, Parent Appreciation Days, Christmas Program, Mardi Gras Celebration, Easter Celebration, Dr. Seuss’ Birthday, St. Jude Trike A Thon and spring Farm Animal Days. The preschool year culminates with an adorable, End of the Year Program!
